A guided walking tour through Melkbos — except the landmarks are cats.

Local legends. Window watchers. Pavement patrol. The cats who know everything happening in the neighbourhood and contribute precisely nothing towards the rates.

Local cat owners nominate their cats. Once nominations are in, we’ll see where our feline celebrities live and build a safe, comfortable walking route around them. The cats stay safely at home — nobody enters anyone’s house. On the day, we walk together from stop to stop, meet the cats and hear their stories. Basically, a neighbourhood walking tour where the local landmarks happen to have whiskers.
Think your cat belongs on the tour?
Maybe they supervise the street from the same window every day. Perhaps the neighbours know them by name. Maybe they patrol the pavement like they personally pay the rates. Whatever their claim to fame, we want to hear about them. Every Melkbos cat is welcome to be nominated.
A route shaped around the cats.
Once nominations are in, we’ll look at where all our feline celebrities live and create a safe, enjoyable walking route. If we receive more nominations than we can accommodate on one tour, nobody is being judged on whether their cat is fabulous enough. They obviously are. We’ll work out the fairest and most practical way to include as many as possible.
Nobody enters anyone’s house. Cats remain safely on their own property and can be seen from their usual window, wall, gate, stoep or garden.
All proceeds from the Cat Tour go to our local cat shelters.
